A call handler will take your details and if an urgent appointment is required they will book an appointment at the dental practice which is on call.
For urgent dental advice, please telephone the NHS emergency dental helpline on 0300 1235060 between the hours of 6.30pm to 8am (Monday to Friday) & anytime on weekends and bank holidays.
Emergency treatment:
The following are classed as emergencies and require access to immediate treatment from an A&E Department:
-
Bleeding which does not stop from a recent surgical procedure. For example, after tooth extractions.
-
Increasing swelling that is causing the patient to have difficulty with breathing and/or swallowing.
-
Damage to teeth or jaws as a result of an accident.
Please be aware that toothache on its own (for example, toothache with no other accompanying symptoms or signs) is not a dental emergency. Patients with toothache should not attend an Emergency Department.
If you require pain relief whilst waiting to see a dentist you can obtain advice from your dentist or local community pharmacy.
In all cases patients should note that normal NHS charges will apply.
Remember – Toothache is not an emergency unless accompanied by bleeding, swelling or after an accident.
